Veterans Day events in Sarasota-Bradenton-Venice on Nov. 11

Nov. 7--Honor the people who served in the United States Armed Forces on Monday (Nov. 11) by attending one of these Veterans Day events in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

Sarasota Veterans Day Parade

Hosted by the City of Sarasota and the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee, the parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Main Street and Osprey Avenue and will end at J.D. Hamel Park at the corner of Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue, where an 11 a.m. ceremony will be held. This year's parade theme is "All Gave Some ... Some Gave All ... We May Not Know Them All ... We Owe Them All." The ceremony will feature guest speaker and retired U.S. Army Col. Michael P. Ryan, who served 10 years as senior Army instructor at Sarasota Military Academy. There will also be a performance by the Sarasota Jazz Club Band. Those interested in participating should contact Dan Kennedy, Patriotic Observance Committee chairman, at 941-812-5406.

Manatee County Veterans Day Parade

A memorial service will take place at Sutton Park (1036 Sixth St W., Palmetto) at 11 a.m. with the parade to begin around 11:30 a.m. The parade will proceed down 10th Avenue West and end at Sutton Park. For more information, call 941-723-4570 or visit palmettofl.org

Veterans Day Mass & Ceremonials at Sarasota National Cemetery

The Diocese of Venice is holding its 10th annual Memorial Mass on Veterans Day at 3 p.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery'sPatriot Plaza (9810 State Road 72/Clark Road). All are invited to attend and active military personnel are encouraged to wear their uniform. Although the event is held in the amphitheater, attendees are encouraged to wear sunscreen and bring a hat. There's ample seating and parking at the cemetery. Veterans Day Observance in Venice

Hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8118, all veterans service organizations in the Venice area will participate in the annual ceremony be held at Patriots Park (800 Venetia Bay Blvd.) at 10 a.m. Mayor John Holic and Commissioner Charles Hines will present proclamations honoring the service of Sarasota County veterans. 'Old Soldiers and Sailors' Parade'

The City of Anna Maria's "Old Soldiers and Sailors Parade" will leave promptly at 1 p.m. from City Hall to City Pier Park with a Veterans Day ceremony to follow immediately after the parade in City Pier Park at Pine Avenue and N. Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony

VFW Post 10178 will host a Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony 11 a.m. at the Englewood Veterans Memorial, 10 Harbor Lane, Englewood. The program will include a presentation of colors by the Englewood Fire Department Honor Guard and a demonstration by the Lemon Bay High School ROTC Drill Team.
