Community Foundation announces grants to groups serving Boulder County veterans

Daily Times-Call - 11/13/2021

Nov. 13—Community Foundation Boulder County is awarding $9,423 in grants to three nonprofits serving local veterans, it announced Thursday.

The three grant recipients — each of which is being awarded $3,141 — are: the Boulder County Retired Senior Volunteer Program RSVP Board, doing business as Cultivate; the Qualified Listeners Corp; and Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement (HOPE), according to the Community Foundation news release.

Community Foundation Boulder County said in a website description of the projects and programs to be funded by the grants that:

— "Cultivate provides five safety net services which directly impact adults age 60+ while creating meaningful volunteer opportunities that directly impact the quality of life of seniors and their families. This grant supports the VetsGo program, providing medical transportation for U.S. military veterans age 60+ and their senior family members."

— "Qualified Listeners Corp is a veteran and family resource hub for transportation or housing issues, mobility challenges, food or clothing needs, legal problems, substance abuse, VA benefits and other assistance inquiries. This grant will support transportation of veterans who are Boulder County residents to medical appointments and other errands."

— "HOPE exists so that the unhoused may have a home. This grant supports services to unhoused veterans."

"Today the Community Foundation Boulder County joins in the collective salute to honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces. We are proud to recognize the service of the nearly 14,000 Boulder County veterans. Their unique experiences, perspectives, and leadership are vital to the community in all aspects of community life," Tatiana Hernandez, CEO of the Community Foundation, said in the news release.

The Veterans Fund at Community Foundation Boulder County said it makes grants to nonprofit organizations that are essential to the well-being of Boulder County veterans. Historically, it has funded projects that provide outreach to isolated veterans, create a space where veterans can gather, facilitate the connection between older and younger veterans and identify best practices for services to veterans.
